Teach Starter: A Growing Database of Instructional Materials!
Summary : A Bevvy of Resources at Your Fingertips
Teach Starter is a comprehensive website of resources, games, lessons, and more that teacher users can explore, and the website’s content is arranged using multiple categories. For instance, the “Common Core” section lets users seek a variety of resources by grade level, and each resource is aligned to the standards. Once loaded, users can select to focus their search on the English Language Arts or Mathematical standards. The “Categories” option lets users explore content for learning, classroom management, labels & signs, and other resources. Each of the main options includes sub-options, which lets users narrow their search. The “Widgets” option is comprised of generators, games, interactives, and utilities. These activities allow users to create, produce, and interact with the widget to create a learning artifact, piece of classroom décor, or practice a skill. In each of these options, users will need to search the website’s contents and then click on the piece(s) of content that interest them. Finally, the “Blog” option lets users read ideas for how their colleagues are using the website and its resources for instruction, and it offers a list of topics to search on the right side menu.
Please Note: Users have the option to register with the website, which allows them easier access for downloading digital resources found on it.
Classroom Applications for Teach Starter
- When brainstorming how to teach a topic, teachers can search the “Categories” section of this website for their subject area. They can then load that category and use the menu on the newly loaded screen to further select their topic. At this point, resources will load that teachers can browse and potentially implement in their classroom.
- To begin implementing blended learning lessons in their classroom, teachers can consult the “Widgets” section of this website to see if there are any technologies that might apply. In addition, teachers may want to view RWT Trading Cards and RWT Timeline. These technologies can be springboards to teachers fully blending their classroom instruction with digital tools.
- To facilitate new instructional ideas and to learn what colleagues outside of their school are doing, teachers can read the blog to gain new ideas for their classroom. In addition, teachers can share what they are doing in their classroom with the “Guest Posts” portal located in this section.
