Description: This app lesson will develop science students’ understanding and knowledge of earth’s natural force environments such as volcano eruptions, moving glaciers, landslides, erosion, and more. The students will have the opportunity to learn, manipulate, and share their findings about the evolution and effects of earth’s natural physical geography.
Instructional Objective: Students will research and perform hands on activities dealing with Earth’s natural forces, then after groups have mastered this content, students will create flashcards and accompanying presentations about the natural forces to educate their classmates.
Step 1: Students will be assigned a group and a natural force (i.e. volcano eruption, moving glaciers, rockslides, erosion, etc.). Using The Earth app, the students will manipulate their assigned natural force and learn essential vocabulary words and terminology to ensure their understanding.
Step 2: Students will use StudyBlue to create and study important vocabulary words and terminology pertaining to their natural force. For example, if one group was learning about volcano eruptions, they might record the following vocabulary terms: lava, gas, vent, volcano, magma, and/or crust. Each group will share their flashcards with the other groups to study for the test.
Step 3: Students will illustrate their vocabulary words and demonstrate the natural force including labels of the vocabulary terms/steps studied using the ScreenChomp app. The students will record their voice over their illustration explaining the force’s process to both educate their peers and demonstrate their understanding. Each group will share and watch their peers’ different presentations to learn about a variety of natural forces.
