Instructional Ideas
- As students read a text, they can keep notes about it. To do so, teachers can require students to create a separate cloud for each section or chapter, and then enter a summary, key ideas, or overarching concepts they found in the text into the cloud. This will help students comprehend the text.
- When brainstorming a paper, students can use this app to help with their organization. For example, students can create a cloud for the paper’s introduction and explain how they will introduce readers to the topic and compose their thesis statement. Next, students can create clouds for each body paragraph, and then explain the topic that they will discuss in each body paragraph. Finally, students can create a cloud for the conclusion and use it to explain how they will end their paper.
- Students can use this app when brainstorming a short story. Students can setup a storyboard by creating a cloud for each scene they envision in their story. In each cloud, students can compose a summary of the scene and a description of the scene’s setting. Or, students can create clouds for their story’s rising action, climax, and resolution.
- When outlining a report or presentation, students can create clouds to help their organization. For example, when researching a historical or significant individual, students can create separate clouds for that person’s childhood, education, family, work, and/or legacy. These clouds will then form the organization of the upcoming report or presentation.
