Instructional Ideas

  1. Teachers can show their students a painting found in this app by connecting their device to a projector. Next, teachers can have students discuss the qualities of the painting and identify the techniques used by the artist to create it. To conclude the activity, teachers can have students sketch the painting, describe the painting in a journal entry, or critique what they like or dislike about the painting using an office app.
  2. Teachers can have students browse this app and select either their top five paintings or artists. Next, teachers can have students compose an explanation that articulates why they selected the paintings or artists they included. Teachers can then facilitate a class discussion where students share their ideas and rationales for why they selected the paintings and/or artists that they did. Teachers can frame the conversation with the goal that the class comes to a consensus regarding their favorite paintings and/or artists.
  3. Teachers can assign students a research assignment that requires them to identify a specific type of painting and then use this app to view different samples of it. Next, teachers can have students analyze the paintings for commonalities between artists and then write an overview using an office app.
  4. Teachers can have students make “Artist Cards” using this app modeled after sports cards. On the front side of the card, students can draw an image of the artist and include the artist’s name. On the back, students can present information they researched about the artist including: When and where the artist lived, most famous paintings, type of paintings produced, notable family members, and more. Students can create these cards on paper or using an artwork production app.
