Instructional Ideas
- When using stations in their class, teachers can have students listen to one tale independently. After listening to the tale, teachers can have students draw an image about one part of the tale and compose one sentence about their image.
- As students begin learning to read, teachers can have them read these tales independently, with a partner, or in small groups. To do so, first have students turn the volume on their iPad to silent. Students can then practice reading independently by “whisper reading” the story to themselves. Or, students can read with a partner by alternating readers after each paragraph. In small groups, students can exchange reading responsibilities after each paragraph.
- After listening to a story, teachers can have students rewrite the ending.
- As students learn literary terms (e.g., plot, setting, conflict, protagonist, and antagonist), teachers can have an entire class listen to a children’s tale in this app. Next, teachers can lead a class conversation to identify each of these key terms in the tale they just heard or read.
