UX Write is a word-processing app modeled after Microsoft Word. With UX Write, users are able to create, save, store, open, and email documents, and documents can be DOCX or HTML files.

Please note: Users can upgrade to save and share documents as PDF files.

Additionally, users are able to open documents in other apps and link to online-storage locations, such as Box, Google Drive, and Dropbox. To create a document, users must tap the “New Document” button on the left side of the main screen, title the document, and create it as either an .html or .docx file. At this point, users are able to type their document as a traditional Microsoft Word document. An advanced feature in UX Write is the keyboard option that allows users additional control over their cursor. By tapping the “a|b” button or the “ab” button on their keyboard, users will be able to position their cursor more accuracy than just by tapping and swiping the screen, which makes highlighting and manipulating text easier. To create files and manipulate where they are stored, users must tap the “Manage Files” button from the main screen, and then they can choose to create new folders or rename, copy, move, or delete files.

Instructional Ideas

  1. For all written work, teachers can have students type their assignments in this app and then store or share them via email.
  2. For each unit taught, teachers can have students create a separate folder for it using this app and then store all the documents they typed that are related to that unit in the applicable folder. At the end of the unit, students will then have all their material ready to study for an upcoming summative assessment.
  3. Portfolios can be made by using this app. To do so, students will need to have an organization system in place in which they save their work during a specific time period (e.g., a unit, month, or semester). Next, teachers can instruct students to choose their three, five, or seven best pieces of work to include in their portfolio. Students then select their work and compose a rationale that acts as a justification for explaining why each piece of work that they selected represents some of their best work. Students can then submit all their materials to their teacher via email or by saving them to an online storage place where it can be shared.
  4. When completing a shared or collaborative assignment, students can email their work back and forth until it is complete using this app. Additionally, students can submit their work for grading by emailing it to their teacher.
