Vincent van Gogh Art Gallery

The Vincent van Gogh Art Gallery app provides a variety of information about Vincent van Gogh that includes: (1) a comprehensive art gallery of his work, (2) a brief biography of his life, and (3) a short list of interesting facts about him. Users are able to scroll through the different information presented in this app using the menu located on the bottom of the screen, and users can view Van Gogh’s art by searching for specific pieces by name or perusing them as thumbnails or full-portrait views. If users wish to share a piece of Van Gogh’s artwork, they can do so by posting it to Facebook or Twitter. Plus, users can save a piece of art to their photo album.

Instructional Ideas

1. Teachers can assign students to review this app and select the five most interesting facts they learned about Van Gogh. (Students are to consult both the “bio” and “facts” menu when selecting information.) Students are then to the rank the facts (1 being the most interesting and 5 being the least interesting) and compose a short rationale for explaining their rankings.
2. Teachers can have students peruse the “Gallery” of Van Gogh’s works and select their favorite piece(s). Students can then write a rationale that explains their selection of why they choose the piece(s) they did.
3. Students can study a piece of Van Gogh’s work and attempt to recreate it using either traditional art mediums or with an art-production app such as Tayasui Sketch.
