Voice Meter Lite

Voice Meter Lite allows users to monitor the volume level of a room. After launching the app, users are presented with a meter that measures three levels of volume: low, medium, and high. As a room gets progressively louder, the meter level rises. To adjust the sensitivity, users can tap the “gear” button, which makes the meter more or less tolerant of noise.

Classroom Applications

1. After assigning group work or silent work time, teachers can use this app to monitor the volume level of a room. To ensure that the meter is aligned to an appropriate level, teachers can adjust the meter’s sensitivity.
2. To help build their voice awareness, teachers can place their iPad in the back of a room with this app open while they talk or lecture. That way, while they speak, teachers can monitor the volume level of their voice.
3. To help ensure that students are on task and not talking, teachers can place their iPad in areas of the room where students might be talking. That way, as teachers circulate the room, they can look at their iPad to see the volume level of different areas of the room where they might not be able to hear.
