A Quality Calculator Online
Web 2.0 Calc provides users with an array of math tools. First, users can access a scientific calculator when loading the website or by clicking the “Home” button. Users can then input data into the calculator, and it will compute the answer. If users have a particular math question they need help to answer, they can click the “Forum” option from the menu at the top of the screen and then click the “Post New Question” option. Users can then type their question, and other users can answer it. Or, if they would like to answer a question, users can click a question, click the “Post New Answer” button, type their answer, click the “Show Preview” button, and then click the “Publish Answer” button. The new answer will then appear in that question’s forum. The “Formulary” button lets users input data into a formula, and the website will calculate the answer based on the given variables. The “Help” button offers examples for different mathematical topics, and the “About” button provides information about the website’s developer.

Instructional Ideas for Web 2.0 Calc
- When solving a problem, students can use the calculator as a tool. If multiple steps are required to solve the problem, students can take screenshots of each piece of data they entered into the calculator. They can then add those screenshots to create a presentation that shows how they solved the problem. Some recommended web tools that can be used to create a presentation for this include StoryboardThat, Biteable, and Stupeflix.
- If students are stuck on a problem and cannot find someone to help them, teachers can encourage them to post their question to the “Forum” section of this website. Students can then monitor their responses.
- When students come to a problem that requires them to use a specific equation, they can choose the equation from the “Formulary” menu and input their data. The website will then solve the equation.
- For advanced students, teachers can have them browse the “Forum” section for questions and answer them. For each question they answer, students can take a screenshot of their work, and show it to their teacher. In turn, teachers can give them extra credit for their work.
