World Factbook. Countries Info

Freemium! World Factbook contains a comprehensive data set of the world’s countries. To access information, users must choose a country on the left side menu and tap its name. Next, the World Factbook loads information about the country that includes an introduction, maps, flag, geography, people and society, government, and economy among additional information. When reading information, users can tap the “Star” button to favorite the information, and they can tap the “Eyed Star” button to access information they favorited. Instructional Ideas Teachers can have students use this app with the Venn Diagram app to compare two or three countries.…

1. Teachers can have students use this app with the Venn Diagram app to compare two or three countries. Students can select or be assigned the countries to compare, and students would be responsible for making multiple points of comparison. For example, students could compare information related to the countries’ communication, economy, government, etc. After completing the Venn Diagram, students can write a paragraph that explains their comparisons. When finished, students can email their teacher both the Venn Diagram and paragraph for grading.
2. As part of a project, students can use this app to reference and cite facts related to the countries they are researching.
3. Teachers can have students use this app to pick a country where they would like to live. As part of this assignment, students can use the information listed in this app as support for their decision. Students can then present the country and their reasons for wanting to live there with a Presentation app.
4. Students can use this app to identify what they think are the five most influential countries on earth. Based on their research using this app, students can write an essay or an annotated bibliography using an Office app that reports their research. Students can post their essays to a class website, so their classmates can read them and comment in response.
5. Students can research different countries and compose multiple-choice questions related to different countries. For each question, students can include a citation where they found the correct answer in this app. Students can then quiz each other using their questions and then, if the student who is being quizzed answered incorrectly, look up the correct answer.
