Instructional Ideas

  1. Individually or with a partner, students can conduct an experiment using Xperica HD and compose a lab report. In the report, students would list the virtual materials they used, how they conducted the experiment, and provide detailed notes about their observations.
  2. Preceding a lesson or unit about the scientific principle, teachers can assess student learning by instructing students to use Xperica HD to conduct an experiment.  Following the experiment, students would be directed to research and report on the different ways that the scientific principle could be used to advance civilization.
After conducting an experiment using this app and learning the scientific principle, students could research different ways that the scientific principle could be used to advance civilization.
  3. Teachers can use Xperica HD to model an experiment prior to having students enter a “concrete” lab to conduct the actual experiment.
  4. During a lecture about a specific scientific principle, teachers could project Xperica HD in order to conduct a virtual experiment with the whole class. Throughout the experiment, students would be instructed to record their predictions as the teacher suggests different ways to manipulate the experiment (e.g., add more weight to a spring, increase the temperature of water, or lower the electric current). After manipulating the experiment accordingly, the teacher could then have students check to see if their predictions were accurate, and then they could provide explanations of why or why not.
