Zoho: A Resource for Creating Documents, Presentations, and Spreadsheets

Summary : A Tool for Digital Collaboration and Creation

Zoho is an online platform that can be used to create, share, and collaborate on a variety of products. To begin, users will need to create a Zoho account and sign in. Next, users will need to click the “Zoho” or “Dots” button on the top left of the screen to choose the type of product they wish to produce. If users wish to create a document, presentation, or sheet they must click the product and choose if they wish to upload a file on their computer or create a new one. Once loaded or created, users are provided tools similar to those that appear in Microsoft Office programs, and they can be used when creating and editing the product. To save the product, users must first name it by clicking the “Untitled Document/Presentation/Sheet” on the top left of the screen and then typing the title. This action will result in Zoho automatically saving the product. Users can then save their work by clicking the “Distribute” button on the top menu and choosing the format for how they want to download and save their work. If users wish to share their work with another person, they must click the “Share” button, enter the email of the other person, and then click the “Share” button again. In addition, there are several additional options and features that are included in Zoho that users should explore on their own once they are able to create and save products using this website.

Please Note: The basic features of Zoho are free to use. To access additional apps and content, users may need to pay a subscription fee.

Instructional Ideas

  1. This website can be used to ensure students are taking notes. To do so, teachers can have students create a document using this website and then add notes to it while listening to a lecture, viewing a video, or reading a text. When finished, teachers can require students to download their notes, save them, and then email them to their teacher. Teachers can add extra requirements by having students using tables, charts, or bulleted/numbered lists in their notes.
  2. To help students create presentations, teachers can have them use one of the templates that are preloaded into this website. Next, students can use the prompts to add content to their presentation. Teachers will need to give students specific guidelines/requirements for their presentations that include the amount of images, texts, and links. When finished, students can share them by downloading their presentations and then uploading them to a class website or emailing them to their teacher.
  3. When recording data in groups, students can create a spreadsheet using this website and then share it with the members of their groups. Next, as students are conducting an experimenting or observing a phenomenon, they can record data onto their spreadsheet, which can then be later analyzed when the students return to class.
  4. When completing a group work assignment, students can create a presentation or document using this website. Next, the students can each take on a different responsibility for the assignment. As they fulfill their responsibility, students can upload information to the presentation or document. Once all the information has been added to the presentation or document, one student can review the work and ensure that all the assignment’s requirements are met.
