ZZCad Sentence Parsing Program is a website designed to identify the different elements of a sentence. After loading the website, users must type in a sentence and click the “Parse the Sentence” button. The website then analyzes the sentences and reports its parts of speech, phrases and clauses, subject and predicate, and punctuation marks. When ready to progress, users can type in another sentence and click the “Parse the Sentence” button to repeat the process.
Instructional Ideas
- To gain a familiarity with how this website functions, teachers can have students write different sentences and analyze them using this website.
- Teachers can challenge students to write sentences that contain a certain amount of parts of speech (e.g., two nouns that function as subjects, three prepositional phrases, two conjunctions in the predicate, etc.). Students can then write their sentence and analyze it using this website to see if they are correct!
- Teachers can present a sentence to students and then have students identify its parts of speech, subject and predicate, and clauses and phrases. When ready, students can type the sentence into this website to check their work.
