Session #1: Fundamental: Equipping Teachers with Foundational Knowledge for Using Mobile Devices and Apps in the Classroom
This is App Ed Group’s introductory workshop to learn about mobile devices that running iOS (Apple) or Droid (Google) platforms. Attendees will learn how to navigate their device and explore its different functionalities and applications. Examples for how students and teachers can use the device to improve student-learning outcomes will be demonstrated. This professional development session can be tailored to last from 3-8 hours.
Session #2: Intermediate: Where to Find Apps and How to Use Apps Effectively in the Classroom
This is App Ed Group’s foundational apps workshop. The workshop’s first focus is to explain the different types of apps that exist and their purposes. Its second focus is to show teachers how to effectively select and evaluate apps for blended learning lessons. This professional development session can be tailored to last from 3-8 hours.
Session #3: Advanced: Building Effective, Measurable App Lessons
This is App Ed Group’s secondary apps workshop. The workshop’s focus is to expose educators to the research base behind developing and implementing effective, relevant app lessons that result in student learning that is measurable. The session will kick off with the learning theory behind the arrangement of activities in successful app lessons, and move to teaching the structure App Ed Review employs to create its app lessons. The Advanced workshop will conclude with a breakout session where attendees will design their own app lessons. The workshop will include helpful resources and subject-specific demonstrations. This professional development session can be tailored to last from 3-8 hours.
Session #4: Expert: App-Enhanced Teaching Strategies
This is App Ed Group’s workshop for teachers who have experience using mobile devices and apps with students. The workshop uses TPACK, a theoretical framework for incorporating technology effectively as part of classroom instruction, to assist teachers in understanding and aligning their use of technology, pedagogy, and content in their lessons. The workshop demonstrates different teaching strategies for infusing mobile devices and apps into instruction. The workshop will progress to an activity where teachers analyze how they already use apps to support their student learning, and it will conclude with teachers designing future instruction to further incorporate mobile devices and apps into their teaching practices. This professional development session can be tailored to last from 3-8 hours.
Session #5: Special: A la Carte Top 20 Apps Per Subject Area or Grade Bracket Per Request
Do you love apps but wonder how you can implement them more effectively in your subject area? English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education apps are plentiful, but which are the best? There are apps available that teachers may not have considered using in their classrooms. This session will offer 20 apps for teaching and learning, complete with short demonstrations and ideas for how to utilize them effectively in the classroom. This professional development can be personalized for any grade level and subject area. This session can last from 2-4 hours, and it can be combined with any of the other sessions.
