Description: This app lesson will develop elementary students’ understanding and knowledge on weather patterns and seasons.
Instructional Objective: Students will explore weather patterns and effects by researching and charting data, completing hands on experiences, and learning from a tutorial app that talks to them about seasons and weather.
Step 1: Step 1: In groups of two, students will use the Kid Weather app to search an area’s current temperature, precipitation level, wind speed, and cloud cover.
Step 2: Then, students will use the Seasons and Weather app while listening to the narrator explain seasons and why/when they occur. Students will use their best judgment to listen to the clues the narrator gives and select the proper weather that best matches her description. Each group will keep track of their points and share with the class following this activity.
Step 3: Independently, students will use the MarcoPolo Weather app to explore different weather conditions. They will navigate the temperatures of their choice and select the proper attire for their selective character to wear in these types on conditions.
Step 4: Using Evernote, students will write three quiz questions for their peers, including an answer key, on different types of weather and what to wear in certain temperature/weather situations. Students will share these with the teacher for assessment, and the teacher will ask the students these questions as a review game.
