Description: This app lesson will develop science students’ understanding and knowledge of weather patterns and teach them how to communicate and describe weather conditions to others.
Instructional Objective: Students will explore different aspects of the weather through the apps and demonstrate their understanding through a multimedia production from the viewpoint of a meteorologist.
Step 1: Students will use the Extreme Weather by KIDS DISCOVER app to develop an understanding of climate change, heat/humidity, monsoons, floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, and cold weather conditions.
Step 2: Students will use The Weather Channel app to look up the temperature and weather condition predictions for the week in the town that they live in, along with other regions of the world. They will work in groups to prepare a weather forecast for the week in the region of their choice.
Step 3: Students will work in groups and video a weather forecast for the week in their region of choice by using the iPad’s camera and the TouchCast app.
